One of the best movies I've ever seen.

I look at how movies affect my view of things as the prime factor in rating it. This is a 10. Dissecting this movies into little pieces and analyzing it to see if it compares to the "greatest" movies is a crime.
Movies should be judged solely on how effectively they instill the desired emotions into the audience. I was so mad after this movie I wanted to scream. Because I knew how this was a very graphic movie but that real life is so much more.
And It wasnt six men. It was hundreds of thousands. You begin to see the tragedy that is Vietnam. One of the most diabolical wastes of human life in history. And that is why I love this movie. It showed exactly what it needed to in order to convey its message. And it did it with a wonderful performance from everyone involved

IMO its a must see. Though not for those reasons. Very overlooked film. They should've made it a PG-13. I would have been opended to a wider audiernce.

Definitely shouldn't be PG-13, it has to be gritty. One of my favorite movies, too.

Agreed and the Criterion Laserdisc release with all the deleted/alternate scenes and extras including an audio commentary by many of the people involved in the film's production make this an absolute classic.

One of these days I'll get round to putting this version on TPB or Mininova where everyone can get it :)

I'm not sure if I've seen that. I have to.

It can be gritty without being gory.

Still not the same. I feel you have to experience the violence of the Vietnam part and then later when he shoots the guards to show what Vietnam (amongst other things) has made him. And they can't curse in PG-13. That's just unrealistic in a world like that.

Its in the look the feel...you can almost smell the Bronx in 1973 watching this film. Classic.

You may not bet on me but don't bet against me.
