A little different, but you probably know about the Tuskegee Airmen movie with Laurence Fishburne. Roots The Next Generations has a section on blacks in the first World War. It's a bit short I think, but I enjoyed it. The whole movie is long, but the war focus is only a part of it. Actually they revisit it but later when Alex Haley goes to the navy. You can find it on youtube. Hamburger Hill is not strictly about blacks in the war, but they're like the first to really treat black soldiers as more than a prop if you know what I mean. Cadence is about Charlie Sheen's character but he screws up and has to live with a group of black prisoners. You probably know about Glory.
I realize some of these movies are based around white characters, but you're right, there aren't many movies from the black perspective. These are just a list I've enjoyed or that I think did a good job of it.
There is one I'm missing that came out around 1995/1996, I don't remmeber how good it was but I remember watching it as a kid. Got it! The Walking Dead. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114888/
Also there is supposed to be a movie coming out with Gerge Lucas' name attached to it Red Tails http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0485985/ but who knows when that will come out? It's been delayed. Figures.
I feel like I'm missing some but that is what I came up with and maybe you can check out a few and see how you like them.
Edit:
I just found a link that mentions some of the movies I suggested and even more. It's not exactly what you asked for but could be useful.

Man, I can't believe the list didn't mention this one, and neither did I. Have you ever seen A Soldier's Story? Good one with Howard E Rollins Jr and Denzel Washington has a role in it.
