It contains some gratuitous violence, heavy use of profanity and a mostly black cast. The things turn off many people unfortunately. I like it but thought it was a little clunky at times. Just didn't feel like it was as smoothly told as it could have been.

I liked the movie when it first came out. But it is one of the saddest movies I've ever seen. I felt the main characters struggle very deeply and while I recognize this as a great movie I just can't bring myself to watch it too often. I think I've only seen it twice since it first came out. Also the movie Life with Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence also hits that same nerve with me.

I, for one, wouldn't mind giving it a higher rating. That being said, the rating it holds isn't too bad for a movie with mixed reception.
