Why were the killer gorillas suddenly fearful of Amy?

The scene where Amy saves Peter never bode well with me. Aren't these the same gorillas who can easily kill a full grown silver back gorilla with their bare hands (including Amy's parents)? Aren't these the same gorillas who could outsmart a camp full of humans with militarized weapons and technology?

So why fear a runty little gorilla like Amy?

I get that her talking device might have caught them off guard, but I never understood why they treat her with such deference when she comes to Peter's rescue. Seems out of character for them.

Maybe they were just confused - they've never seen a talking gorilla wearing a backpack before and it was a WTF moment for them.

According to the movie, people had taught the killer gorillas to protect the mine and it is supposed that the gorillas turned on the humans. When Amy "talked" to the gorillas, it may have reminded them of their trainers. So even though the speech was coming from something non-human, they may have still harbored some fear of the stern tone of the voice, and so left Amy and Peter alone.

Kind of hard to explain, but here goes: The killer gorillas might realize that even though they are different, part of their instincts make them know how a normal gorilla acts. Seeing Amy with a human which is strange to them and hearing her use human speech they do not attack. It frightens them, so they run away.
