Am I the only one...

Am I the only one who thinks the guy who plays Christian was a HUGE casting mistake. He doesn't ruin the film entirely for me---but every scene he is I am cringing. His acting is horrid and he's not that cute. He is also 5'6 and had a gut, so wearing his "rat pack" outfits with the shirt tucked in....it was just all so wrong. I LOVE Jeremy Sisto, and Paul Rudd. Paul Rudd was perfect for Josh, so I wish they found another cutie to play Elton, cause overall his role isnt that significant, and have Jeremy play Christian. I just can't see a girl like Cher being attracted to that??

I love this movie and I have seen it a million times. I think it's a witty, funny, cute, really well made 90's film. I know it word for word, lol. And for the most part the casting was spot on. EXCEPT for Christian. I don't know how he got that role. I also wished Brittany Murphy (WHO I LOVE) had toned down her new york accent/bad grammar just a tad. Her family was rich enough to live in Beverly Hills...she wasn't white trash. It's believable that a 15 year old girl who is an artist and smokes pot would dress how she did, and look how she did before her makeover and not really have a clue about fashion and all of that. But the accent is far fetched, and it felt really misfitted in the film.

Also I wish they didn't make her quite the way she was dress wise/personality before the makeover as well.... because she literally did a 180 going from being a chill quirky laidback artist to all of a sudden giving a shi* about clothes, knowing how to dress and do makeup. When Cher said "Well I broke up my purple clogs" when her dad asked her what she did at school, Tai smiled at her with tons of excitement. And that was like the 3rd or 4th time they had hung out. People are impressionable and can change, especially in HS but not within like a week. I just can't see Tai giving a shi* if Cher broke in a pair of clogs.....and she nodded in excitement so genuinely so it wasn't like a "Trying to fit in and impress your new friend" kind of reaction. If I were the director I would have either not even filmed Tai's reaction to that, or have her just seem uninterested.

Other than those things, I love this movie. But it did sort of bother me it didn't take a little longer for Tai to change. I know the point was giving her a makeover but there's little things they could have added to show how uncomfortable, nervous and lost she probably felt all of a sudden dressing that way and hanging out with people totally out of her element.

And Christian yeah, enough said about him. He has a lot of cringe worthy acting moments, but a few that stick out is when he said "Awe hunny you baked!"....and "Naw thanks I'm cool." when Cher's dad asked if he drinks. And when he says "Solid" when Cher told him about the party. Ugh just god awful acting how could everyone else do so well and the director not give him ANY direction and think that was ok. I know he is supposed to be different and cheesy but it just came off as horrendous acting. And when Cher told him "Its ok" about the wine making you feel sexy thing, his reaction and then saying I'm actually getting tired. SO unrealistic in how he delivered that.

I know everything in this film is over the top, and supposed to be, but to a good extent with most of the characters. Not with him.

Anyone else agree Christian was miscast, and ruins some of the film??

Maybe Tai was laughing so much at the clog comment, because Cher's dad seemed like a hard-@$$ and Cher gave him that answer for what he probably meant to be a serious question. Idk, just a thought.
