A rare example of the sequel being better

Along with the Adams Family Values movie.

The writers figured out what worked and what didn't.

They figured out for this one that the fish out of water gag was hard to carry a movie and a real story of conflict was needed. They also figured out that the light hearted trip to Sears was the funniest and most entertaining moment and worked a few similar scenes into the sequel.

This movie is still entertaining, but I much prefer part II.

I agree wholeheartedly. The sequel was a huge step up from the original.

Yes, it's very rare to say such, but it's definitely true. It's like they were testing the waters with this one to see what worked and what didn't, then took those elements and applied them to "A Very Brady Sequel" (1996).

They really rolled the dice. I wonder if they even knew a sequel would be green-lit.

BTW, I'm not going to count "The Brady Bunch in the White House" (2002). As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't exist.

Same, that was a movie that shouldn't have been made. I saw it and have erased it from my memory.

I never saw the White House one. I was a fan of these movies but once the cast starts getting changed I lose interest. I also loved the sequel but the one thing keeping the original at the top is Davy Jones. I was 13 when this movie came out and it was my first real introduction to Davy Jones, from there I became a Monkees fan and it has shaped my life forever haha. silly I know. But if they brought Davy Jones back for the sequel, it definitely would be my favorite.
