They were totally oblivious to the fact that times had changed around them and that their sugary attitudes didn't fit in too well with the times. That was entertaining bringing the values of the 1970s family into the 'anything goes' era of the 1990s.

Crazy to think about what teens and young people faced in the late 60's early 70's....hippies, Manson, Woodstock, Altamont, Kent State, the draft/Vietnam, gas shortage and a lot of drugs. Along came this amazingly happy and well adjusted blended family. They tackled getting out of dates, girl vs boy drivers, how to pay for the folk's presents and cousin Oliver. Then All in the Family followed a couple years later and took on every hard topic imaginable! Personally I think it's cool they kept it light and fun. Entertainment and tv is a great escape....it doesn't have to be REAL.
