Jan's Wig

Someone explain this to me? What was its relevance. Did the people in the room actually like it, or were they just shocked at how lame it was? Never really got that scene.

reply

I'm pretty sure they were shocked at how lame it was, considering everything the Brady's do is considered lame to the high schoolers in that movie =)

Oh okay, thanks. =]

Actually, it was a reference to an episode where Jan bought a curly black (and hideous) wig so she could be "the new Jan Brady". She showed it off at a party and all of her friends laughed at her - they thought it was a joke. Moral of that episode = be yourself.

reply

Oh okay, aha.

Except the wig in the episode wasn't nearly as huge and afro-tastic (Hairspray word!).

reply

True - they did exaggerate it...but I think that's for those of use that remember the original. That wig was pretty hideous.

The dialogue very cleverly referred to the original as well. Jan wanted to wear her new wig to a birthday party, where she was sure that "the new Jan Brady is going to be a smash!" In the movie, when she came out in the wig, she said, "Look, it's the new Jan Brady" and asked, "Am I a hit?"

The irony is that the actress who played Jan, Jennifer Elise Cox, did not wear a wig in the movie except for that one scene. All the other Brady kids wore wigs.
