There was talk that there were some things they wanted to insert into the movie and he absolutely put his foot down. Seems to me, though, that he should have said no way to the whole thing. It seemed to make fun and demoralize his family wholesome show.

I'll never forget one episode where Greg is complaining about Bobby and says "He's been sort of a stinker lately" and Carol literally says "You know I don't like that word in this house"
Because he realized a parody was the only way to both pay homage to the original series and make the movie fun.
