Why would Billy's father leave the company to Eric at all?

It seems odd that he would ever make that choice, seeing as Carl was more than qualified and not a total dick. Why choose Eric at all?

And why not give Billy an education in running the company rather than have him go through school again? I think it would be more practical for his dad to have paid experts to teach him how to run a business rather than have him go through school again. I didn't learn much about running a company in my education...

The whole thing with Billy was that his dad saw him, rightfully so, as a slacker who had no ambition to do anything other than to get wasted and hang around the house. So why would you hand over your company to a guy like that.

Old post, but I thought this was a valid point. Carl was actually a nice guy and would've been more than qualified. Eric is like a caricature of a greedy Republican and it wouldn't surprise me if he cheated his way to the top. At the very least, he was rude and had a short fuse, makes me wonder what Billy's dad saw in him in the first place.

Billy's dad wasnt going to give the company to the VP.
He was going to retire and promote the VP to become president.

But originally the dad wanted Billy to become President.

The company is still under Billy and his dad's ownership... Just the top management was on the line.
