There are 3 things I really like about the film.

1. Given the mediocre script, Val Kilmer was both a great Bruce Wayne and Batman.

2. The batmobile looks pretty cool.

3. The score is great and quite memorable.

I like Batman Forever. Not as much as the Burton movies, but it gets a lot of unfair heat because of how crap Batman & Robin is. Kilmer did a really good job, as you say, as both Batman and Bruce Wayne. And as far as I'm concerned, to this day no-one has looked better in the Batsuit than Kilmer.

I think the only reason why this was truly hated was because how different it was from the first two. The writer confirmed there is a different cut to the film that is a lot darker and more serious. I hope they release it.

Batman & Robin was (unintentionally) funny and thus entertaining (at least the first 30 minutes). I hated Batman F(or)ever before I even saw B&R.

The only thing I took with me from Batman F(or)ever was the U2 song.

reply

That U2 song was great. As was Val Kilmer.

Unfortunately the film wasn't so good.

The story was fine.

Val Kilmer did a good job as Bruce Wayne/Batman but his portrayal was a kick in the teeth by people who invested in Michael Keaton's Batman.

Schumacher's Gotham did poke back in Arkhamverse. It looks visually stunning with the neon lights, giant human statues and timeless feel but it was a slap in the face by the fans who invested in Tim Burton's Gotham.

You could also say Tim Burton's Gotham in Returns was a slap in the face to people who were invested in his Batman '89 Gotham.

The snowy setting in Returns gives it a unique look for a Batman movie, but it doesn't look anything like '89 Gotham anymore but instead a small scale soundstage.

There's only one shot in the entire two hour movie where you feel like the characters are living in an actual city and it's the one where Catwoman is slowly flying through the air with Penguin's umbrella attached to her.

And let's not forget Clooney's portrayal was a kick in the teeth by people who invested in good performances.

reply

Clooney was just playing himself as both Batman and Bruce Wayne, he's not like Keaton or Kilmer who change persona in whatever role they're in, Clooney just plays himself.

The Soundtrack was everywhere that summer.
