Hey I found a plot hole in this movie.
At the end Miguel kills Nicolai which makes him number 1 Assassin so why does he say to Robert at the end.
"You know as long as you're still out there am not really number 1" or something like that, because nicolai was never killed by Robert so Robert was never number one.
Being an Assassin Miguel would know this.

Sorry Adam, I don't agree. If you kill the number one, you're either lucky or just good. But that is not an automatic bump to number one if there is someone out there that's better than you are.
If DeVon Dudley pins Triple H for the WWE Championship that doesn't mean DeVon becomes number one, it just means he caught Triple H off guard...

Let me explain it more simply to you guys Being the number one Assassin is like being king of the hill the guy who takes you out because king of the hill no questions asked.
If you don't understand what i mean play Quake or something.
Trust me this is how the Assassin rank works.
The diskette contained enough data to expose the lie of his assasination, along with enough information to bring down the entire assasin network he was running. As to why it was transmitted over satellite so it could be intercepted, who knows? Perhaps Nicolai moves the data at random intervals so it is not always in the same place, keeping it more secure.
This answers both of your questions.
Nicolai wants the disc because it has information that could hurt him; even though he does have a new identity, his past could still come back and hurt and/or kill him.

Since everyone thought Nicolai was dead, Rath in the meantime has built up a reputation as being the best hitman out there.
As long as Rath is still alive, Miguel would never be considered no #1.
That's why Miguel tries to kill Rath at the end, for his own peace of mind. It's not like there's a hitman ranking system (like Quake)

BUT Since Rath was retired, that would mean Miguel is number one.. However, like the above poster said, he was going to kill him for his own peace of mind.

But doesnt the fact that Nickolai had retired count for anything? Doesnt Rath assume the #1 rank becasue he's the best serving assassin in the field? Sure he'd get the top spot by default, but the top spot nonetheless?
Miguel would definintely real;ise that he was the best assassin after that, but he would still want to kill Rath n Electra to protect his anonymity.
