question on plot device - possible *SPOILER*

Stallone's waiting to walk out of the bank with $20M, but every exist is covered by those who can't wait to blow him to pieces. If I recall, this was the time when stars (Hanks, Ford, Gibson and Stallone) actually could get quotes of $20M per film. Stallone was particularly reviled by critics at the time (and still has residual ill will from critics, despite a grudging respect for still making movies after 35 years)

So is this plot device a metaphor for movie critics who can't wait to blast Stallone's movie? If so, it is a brilliant goof on self-important critics. If not, it is terrible writing. Thoughts?

I think you're seriously reading way too much into it. it's not really bad writing either, since Robert assumed Electra would of disarmed by that point anyway.

also, if memory serves, Jim Carry was the first actor to receive 20 mil for a role, which was Cable Guy in 96
