The Day of the Jackal is a classic - and considered by many to be the quintessential assassin movie... it's rad!

ILL HE DOOWN ON FINE MIMICKSS

Also, the Bruce Willis pseudo-remake, "The Jackal", isn't bad.

"Lucky Number Slevin" is okay. Low on accuracy, high on fun.

"In the Line of Fire" is a good movie. Clint Eastwood stars opposite John Malkovich, who has possibly his most menacing role. That dude is scary.

Death to the Panopticon!

Yeah this was good.

Also Bruce Willis' other assassin Jimmy the Tulip in 'The Whole Nine Yards'

Replacement Killers. This was boring.

I'd have to say while I love films like this one, my favorite assassin film is "The Matador".

Smokin' Aces

Collateral

Guy Rithcie's Revolver character Sorter !

Coldblooded

or

Cold Blooded with Jason Priestly (if you cold remember)

ASSASSINS is my personal favorite Assassin movie because it's designed like a spy-vs-spy flick.

LEON was okay, but it only was about one assassin, so was COLLATERAL

The REPLACEMENT KILLERS would have to be second best.

Ghost Dog.

I can't believe no one has mentioned "The Mechanic"!

Is Grosse Pointe Blank too obvious?

Love that film.

Other good assassin movies

Well the cream of the crop in the (serious) 'assassin themed' genre is DEFINITELY...

#1 = Leon (1994) (10/10) (one of my favorite films in general)
#2 = Collateral (2004) (9/10)

those two are the CLEAR 'stand outs' of the genre in my eyes.

but to name some other good assassin themed films...

-Nikita (1990) (8/10) (you could basically say the 'Leon' character is in this near the end area of the film, but even more serious ;) ) (Luc Besson also directed this. for those who don't know who he is... he's the guy who directed 'Leon' (1994))
-Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999) (8/10)
-Grosse Pointe Blank (1997) (8/10) (also good but more of a less serious style (somewhat of a comedy the way it's done) as the film in general is cool but less serious than the other Assassin themed films i listed here and i typically prefer the serious/higher quality assassin themed films over the more simple action/comedy ones.)
-The Killer (1989) (8/10) (John Woo film so obviously it's going to be stylized. but a nice old school film)

and obviously... 'Assassins' (1995) ;) (8/10) ... some scenes are well done (i.e. i liked that intro scene where Banderas clips the guy at the funeral and then calmly walks off and pretends to work in the graveyard etc and then Stallone tries to clip Banderas etc) and the drama between Stallone/Banderas carries the film and makes it memorable.

if you don't mind more simple action stuff i would say 'Hitman' (2007) (7/10) was good. (the character in the video games i am a huge fan of. and i thought Timothy Olyphant did a respectable job with the character even though the movie could have been better. but it is one of those simple action type films i seen more than once and still like as i would say i seen that at least 3 times now)

p.s. people also listing 'Smoking Aces' and while i have to agree it's a Assassin themed film i think it's more of a stylized simple action film more than a serious one like pretty much all the films i listed etc.

Road to Perdition? I liked that one. Tom Hanks vs Jude Law

that film is a masterpiece but it's definitely not a assassin themed film (overall i would consider it more of a gangster themed film even though it don't focus around the gangster lifestyle) even though Jude Law's character is a Assassin and he's quite interesting.

so if you where just looking at Assassin CHARACTERS then i would say Jude Law's character would rank up there with THE BEST.

my favorite assassin film is "The Matador".

technically this would be a assassin themed film but i personally don't count this as it's a comedy and not a serious assassin film.

p.s. for the record though... i think 'The Matador' (2005) is a solid film as i gave it a 8/10. Brosnan played the comedy stuff well ;) (one of Pierce Brosnan's best films along with 'After The Sunset'/'The Thomas Crown Affair' putting the Bond films aside)

The Day of the Jackal is a classic - and considered by many to be the quintessential assassin movie... it's rad!

that film i liked (7/10. but no higher) and i think it's probably more real than most other assassin themed films (which is partially why i am guessing it's praised by some groups of people) but to me it lacks in overall entertainment vs the best stuff of the genre like Leon/Collateral which i think are far more entertaining at the end of the day.

so while i could watch that film more than once and basically still like it... it's kind of one of those films that i would not be in a hurry to watch again which slightly hurts it and makes it less memorable in the long run for me.
