I only recently found out it's coming out on DVD again, and pretty darn cheap (was $129 when first released). I only have VHS-English, and I had been holding off DVD's til the price came down, then I saw Best Buy taking preorders. Haven't seen any new info yet (except for the thread posted earlier about some new dubbing).

I have them... and they are very basic, not much in the special features.. but for 30 bucks I can deal. Its worth it too since these releases have a better chapter set up, basicalyy nt skipping the entire episode like the originals
shareI have the first set on the new DVD now also and was VERY disappointed with the picture quality. It's very DARK! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I didn't have that experience at all! Your TV could just be set at a lower brightness. It could also just be the one set you bought
shareI even dug out my old VHS tapes and the difference was astonishing. I could make DVDs myself from my old tapes and come up with a better DVD transfer than the new set we're talking about. I think I'll see about tracking down the older DVD set with the extras and see if it's any different.

good luck... The ones I find of the older sets are 175+ dollars.
