There's an online petition to bring it back to tv
Though the creator of the petition wasn't all that clear on what he wanted. Bring back the original cast, remake it, or make it into a movie.

shareSeems like best on HBO or something away from the censors.
The only way I see doing it with the original cast is a 10 years later thing now that Lucas Black can't play little Caleb but would there be enough original viewership to attract an audience?
I can't see how. The show was made by Lucas Black's performance and as far as I know there aren't any kids around of that age who could come anywhere near matching it.
It was 15 years ago and things change. I can't see a petition succeeding unless it comes wrapped in a few million banknotes.
I had thought of an idea a while ago about a spinoff series called "Trinity." Lucas Black would come back as the star of the show playing an adult Caleb who has now become mayor of Trinity (as opposed to Lucas Buck's sheriff). By making him mayor I think he would have much more control over the town. The idea of the show would connect to the finale of the previous show. In the end of the original series, Merlyn sacrificed her "afterlife" to surpress Caleb's burgeoning powers. The new series would have Caleb wrestling with this. He's filled with the goodness of his long-dead sister, but still has his father's powers deep down and fighting their way to break through. Gayle Emory could come back as an award winning reporter doing very well for herself. If Gary Cole were willing they could bring him back in a guest starring capacity.
shareIt's an interesting idea but for starters there have been at least two previous TV series called Trinity, both of which seem to have been dogs. Guilt by association can be a death sentence.
I don't see how a mayor would have more control. The idea of the sheriff being the ringmaster is good, because he can legitimately be messing around with people all the time - and as we saw when Ben was temporarily taking over the post people really wanted Lucas. Except for those who hadn't fulfilled their part of the bargain.
The show would have to centre around Caleb, which means that if Gary Cole were to appear he would be in flashback - "there can only be one".
I never liked Gail, actually. Having just finished rewatching the series she was certainly necessary, but I don't see how she could fit into a new one. She would be in her mid 40s by then, and I would imagine there's only so much investigative reporting you can do in Charleston.
Selena could certainly fit right in. After Caleb and Lucas she was the most complex character, and that smouldering Southern belle with her deeply damaged psyche aroused all kinds of feelings in me. I've seen Brenda Bakke in other films but nothing she's done could match the intensity of her performance here.
It's an interesting idea but I still can't see it. I hope I'm wrong. Pitch it and see.

The sheriff only enforces the laws. A mayor creates them and puts them into place. Much more power.

That's the idea I had. That's why I said I don't know if he would agree to do it because the show wouldn't be around him anymore.

True. I've seen Brenda Bakke since American Gothic and she's still hot. She would be a good addition...especially if she became a love interest for Caleb. When they thought that Lucas was dead, you could tell she was coming onto Caleb, even at 10yrs old, because she knew of the power he possessed.
"The sheriff only enforces the laws. A mayor creates them and puts them into place. Much more power."
I don't want to make a meal of this, and yes, he has a degree of lawmaking power. But did you see the mayor in the series? Lucas is around the place all day and night, and because of the deals he made with people, and the financial support he gave, he wields much more power on a down-and-dirty basis than any mayor could hope or want to have.
Take the office of President. He is head of state, and nominally is the most powerful individual in the United States. But there is much that goes on that he is not informed of, and other stuff where he has plausible deniability. So there are people who have more power, but not exercised in an overt fashion.
Also I would imagine that the post of mayor would be fairly keenly sought-after as a political stepping-stone for many people. Lucas's job was doubtless subject to periodic elections, but I can't really see anyone voting against him.
One thing I found interesting was that although the series was set in South Carolina it was filmed in NC. But they went to some trouble to reinforce the SC setting, including having authentic SC licence plates for the cars. The Sheriff's Department building had the zip code of a place called Early Branch in SC. Good stuff.

And if you truly believe that then I have a chunk of land in Alaska I'd love to sell you for $1. The president knows about EVERYTHING that goes on. He is just good about covering it up. Take 9/11 for instance. Documents came out proving that Bush knew that something might happen and did NOTHING to try and stop it.
As long as it's not in Wasilla I'd go for it.
There's too much information, especially in this day and age, for one person to know what's going on. He'll know the broad brush strokes of, say, foreign policy and defence, and within limits he can be proactive in all areas. But in any organisation you have to delegate, and that's what he does.
9/11 was certainly a set-up, and it will join other mysteries such as the murder of JFK almost 50 years ago. It is entirely unlikely that the whole truth will ever be known about the events of that day. Most Americans wouldn't believe it anyway, just as there is still a substantial minority who believe that Saddam Hussein was involved. The news media, so-called, don't do their job so you have major events like the homicidal assault on aid ships by the IDF which get a paragraph in the American media. And those that do carry a story just carry the Israeli version.
If you can show me a link to the documents you mention I'd be interested, but much as I despised Bush I'm sure he didn't know the reality. Cheney certainly, but not the Shrub. I've been looking at these things for almost nine years, and despite the fact that many details are simply lies (for instance many of the so-called hijackers are still walking around in Saudi) it's impossible to prove any chain of responsibility.
If they brought it back it'd have to be a reboot. I wish Shaun Cassidy was actually rework the story some, work out a mythology that makes sense, and pitch it around to networks.

work out a mythology that makes sense
What was wrong with the original mythology? It made perfect sense to me.
I firmy believe the show was axed because it was way way ahead of its time.
Probably 10-15 years early. It reminds me of Supernatural, mostly, especially from season 3, when it really gets dark and moody and spiritual. And we all know Supernatural is quite successful.
All the gray area covered by American Gothic, the very nature of Lucas Buck...this was too gray for the mid 90s. What is good? what is bad? Is there good and bad or just shades of gray? Lucas Buck is a character that could perfectly fit our years.
About a remake, or second season, I don't think it will ever happen, but if it does I'll be in the front line :-) count me in
