EXPLETIVE @*+!!

I watched "American Gothic" (kind of) years ago when it was on TV. Even though I didn't catch the first episodes, and even though it seemed like I kept missing stuff, I LOVED it and would watch for when it was on (because you NEVER knew when it was gonna be on - they would take it off for weeks, put it on, take it off - it was like a treasure hunt to find it). Eventually it seemed to just disappear and I was very upset because I had really gotten to look forward to it.

Fast forward to a couple of weekends ago when I was watching some E show about Shaun Cassidy. They mentioned American Gothic and the cult following it got, even though the network seemed to do it's best to make it fail. It intrigued me and I came here and read a few threads, where I learned about the episodes being out of order. I have netflix and my first thought was to get the episodes from them, but I wouldn't be able to have all the discs at once, and it seemed, if I wanted to watch the episodes in order, I would have to have the whole thing there at once. So I went to Amazon and bought the whole series for 19.99.

Well now I wish I didn't. I got them yesterday and I'm fitting in watching them with work, etc. I have fallen in LOVE with this show. Completely!!! I've watched 4 episodes so far and the next one I watch will be one of the out of order ones. It is just so complex and riveting and entertaining, and I know I didn't see at least the first three when it was on - so now it's so much clearer about what's going on. Stories within stories - so much more than what I saw before (and I loved it even then). But from what I remember, there was no clear ending to this series, no good "satisfaction" with questions answered, etc. So by doing this, I'm just opening myself up for the big disappointment of "no end" I think... I didn't think I would CARE that much about it - but it's so completely drawn me in.

Save "Requiem" for your last episode. It's as close to a resolution as you'll get for this wonderful creation from a least likely creator.

Too bad the real demon Les Moonves canceled the show. I guess he didn't want Sheriff Buck as competition. But ultimately the America audience puts up with being lazy sheep. Les Moonves has a job ONLY because his customers are lazy and simple minded and not due to any talent of his own.

The most intelligent answer I've seen on this board, and also quite correct. At the time, I remember reading interviews with Shaun Cassidy where he said (paraphrasing) AG did not fit with Moonves' vision of "family fare" that he was planning for the coming year, hence the cancellation.

I got into this show right from the get go. Eerie, scary and creepy all the way around and Gary Cole was FANTASTIC in the part. I've ranted about morons who run networks many times, I won't bother now because you folks have summed it up better (and shorter) than I would have. I just wish normal people could pick and protect GOOD programming from mindless executives. Sadly, it just ain't gonna happen. Stooges like Les Moonbat are too busy giving jobs away to their talentless hack wives. Oh, I'm sorry, did I actually type that?
