Why did Dr Matt leave?
He was never mentioned or seen again after the 'Dr Death takes a holiday' episode. Why was this? Did the actor want to leave or were there other reasons?
thanks
Dan.

I read in a thread on this board, (which may have been deleted), that TPTB thought he wasn't good looking enough and so got a new doctor/actor that would be better eye candy for the ladies. They failed as far a I'm concerned. The new guy turned me off.
In case someone doesn't know:

Yeah I just noticed this too yesterday. Been watching online since I never saw the episodes from the beginning. Just caught them here and there when reruns were shown. I liked the original Dr b/c he plays in Medium now. Oh well...
Jake Webber is hot and sexy as Dr Matt. Hated seeing him off the show.

As I said, I had read this 'fact' in another thread on this board. Either way, TPTB screwed up by bringing in the new doctor. I didn't root for him at all. In fact, I hoped he would get tortured and killed off asap. He annoyed me.

I heard it was because they didn't think he was strong enough to be Lucas Buck's adversary or something. But if they got rid of him because he wasn't "attractive enough" ... that's an even dumber reason.
"I think I'll just stay here awhile. Enjoy the sunrise." Michael (DOTD)
The new doc is a stronger adversary for Lucas Buck ... it is an interesting dynamic. Dr. Matt was fine, but changing it up was fine too.
shareJust an update ... Dr. Matt went insane. Ironic I suppose. He probably was not drinking enough.
shareHe didn't go insane, Lucas Buck just made it look that way. I haven't seen it in years, but I remember him saying "you'll be stopped" to Buck through the locked door as the episode ended.
I liked his character, and the show should have been on longer.
You're right. Buck had him committed to a sanitarium to get him out of Caleb's life and make it easier for Buck to become the boy's guardian. Really evil stuff.
shareI loved the sexiness Matt brought to the show as oppose to the normal hunk guy. I love the nerdy sexy. lol
shareTruthfully, I don't see why they couldn't have had both. I do understand the desire to change things around and then bring back the former character later ... which I think they would have probably done had enough complaints rolled in but the series was already failing by the time they made the decision with Jake Weber and was evident there was not going to be a 2nd season.
If I recall, they finished up the last handful of episodes airing in bulk even skipping some.
So sad compared to how horror has excelled on cable compared to the major networks.
There is no such thing as "nerdy sexy."
Now, "intelligent sexy"! That's something ENTIRELY. different. Nerds lack confidence, hence, NOT SEXY. The primary genital organ is the mind.
Braingasm!!
It was CBS. They never liked the character, wanted to replace him with a more traditionally attractive actor. So that's what happened.

Dr. Matt was an interesting and very likable character. I didn't care for Dr. Peele too much.
