American Horror Story?

Hi. I love horror and have been recently watching American Horror Story. Is American Gothic anything like it?
I've been avoiding American Gothic because I heard that it involved angels and I don't care for movies/shows like that.

You can check out the first couple of episodes and see what you think:

I think you have to be in the US to view them.

I have seen both, and I can say that AHS is nothing like American Gothic, AHS is a horror TV show, and American Gothic is not. In my opinion, American Gothic is the best and much better than AHS.

At the time that it came out, American Gothic was the scariest thing on TV. It may not be considered "horror" by today's standards but it definitely has a creep factor. The show is about a man named Lucas Buck who is the sheriff of a small town called Trinity. Lucas is a very evil man with supernatural powers. He is a devil if not THE Devil. There is a character on the show who dies and becomes a ghost, not an angel.

Merlyn denied that she was a ghost when Caleb asked her. She neither confirmed, nor denied being an angel.

Oh, sorry...you're right. I always remember that scene wrong.

Gothic is not about angles. It's a horror story.

although it does have angels in it, but yeah it's not 'about' angels, it's more about Good and Evil in general.

angle can be very scary

Especially those isosceles triangles *shiver*

It's not about ghosts or angels...it is rather odd but in a good way. It's creepy in a more gentle way. The Sheriff Lucas Buck is...well watch it and try and work it out. I have my opinion who he may of been but it kinda of leaves you guessing. One thing is for sure the words "there's somebody at the door" will never seem so creepy!!

I recommend watching American Gothic, it's extremely, extremely tame when you put it next to AHS, which I also love, but they're totally different types of shows, American Gothic goes more for a mysterious gothic atmosphere while American Horror Story is not subtle in the slightest.

I have to say while watching American horror story, I get a American Gothic vibe about it. They seem a lot alike. Yes AHS is very more disturbing then AG.

reply

I love both shows, generally AG more even though it's of its era and is not as smooth overall...

Maybe it was too obvious but I thought someone would have pointed out that they both star the same actress....

So I'm guessing the producers of AHS are aware of AG. I would be very surprised to hear them say the opposite.

reply

AG is more interesting, but suffers from the time is was made. Has a more of the stand alone episodes instead of one long story line. While it does tell a story, it is not in the soap opera style that is so common today. Also, as stated before, it is mild in the shock factor but that is really just in language and sexual content, personally I don't think much is gained or lost by this.

reply

Yes, Sarah Paulson is in both AG and AHS. She was/is great in both. Lucas Black is now in NCIS New Orleans, and Paige Turco is now in The 100. I was amazed to recognize Turco after just rewatching AG. Great actors in AG, but it was a good vs. evil thing. AHS is pure evil.

reply

No. This is a cheesy, cheap Twin Peaks imitation. Not worth watching.

Rented the series on Netflix, expected to like it (just finished Shaun Cassidy's "Invasion," liked it fairly well). Turned it off after episode three; very dated, difficult to watch. "Cheesy" is a really good way to describe it. Much more subtle than "AHS" but not nearly as well-written, -directed or -acted (the first season of "AHS," that is-- the third season is unwatchably terrible).
