This would of worked a whole lot better if..........

Robert Englund went crazy from playing Freddy too many times in the previous movies and it turned out HE was the actual stalker.

I know the NOES films are all about Fantasy Horror, but I think this would of worked much better from the 'set in reality' angle.

Englund could of made his own glove which would throw back to the orginal film were we see it being made at the beginning (kind of like this one) and make up effects and wore the orginal clothing, jumper, fedora etc. and come after Heather.

New Nightmare was a good spin on the series at the time, but I found alot of things wrong with it. It all got abit too silly toward the end. A good precursor to the Scream franchise, yet watching it again just now I found it hasn't aged all that well, which is a real shame because it could've been a great film. Still better than the abysmal Freddy's Dead and The Dream Child though.

Interesting idea.

I want to know how much of the absurdity in the latter half of the movie is intentional...

If you think about it, it's all pretty much classic Freddy, tongue things, 'bitch' line, sticky stairs, culminating in Freddy turning into a demon and then loads of explosions done with practical miniature effects.

It's a lot like Adaptation. (2002) if you think of it that way.

It certainly would have been interesting, could have been titled A REAL NIGHTMARE!

However the only problem with the story, is that it would completely have lost the dream aspect charm to the movie.

It would essentially have been just a guy who acted as Freddy in the movie's pretending to be Freddy in the real world.

While I like the psychological aspect of the idea, Robert Englund dressing up as Freddy and stalking Heather in the real world.

He wouldn't have had any of his powers and abilities that is common to the Nightmare on Elm Street films.

New Nightmare is definitely the worst in my opinion in the series, however while I like your idea's to some degree, I don't think it would have worked as a film.

Would have you moron.

This would HAVE worked a whole lot better, not This would OF worked. Get it now?

reply

Yeah, I get it now. Thanks for the education lesson now go away you offensive little idiot.

I love that idea.

reply

I like the idea but don't love it

I agree that it would miss the "dream aspect" which is essential to the "nightmare" series (it's in its title fer cryin' out loud)

It would've been a different movie altogether, in other words

But I would miss, personally, the notion that Englund himself is haunted by Freddy

Thank you :)

I thought the effect of the son from the nightmares was good, and it would have been cut out for obvious reasons. I prefer the nightmare aspect better. But not a bad idea.

I think it would've been better if it was at least left more ambiguous as to whether it's Heather going crazy, Englund becoming the killer, a crazed fan or Freddy coming to life. At least maybe initially. Kind of like Scream how you're suspecting everyone until the end.
