Very underrated

I was looking through the free movies OnDemand last night, ran across this one and decided to give it a look. I never did see it when it was first released, but I do remember when it came out.

The RT score is an abysmally low 10%--even the audience score is only 40%--but I gotta say, I actually enjoyed it a lot. It's a fun little story with a great cast and Nic Cage brings that special thing to it that only Nic Cage can bring.

I really don't get why the critics were so hard on this one. I thought it was a fun holiday comedy.

I watched this several times in my childhood. Always enjoyed it. I had forgotten about it, so I appreciate you making this post.

I avoided the movie for a long time because of its low rating and the inclusion of the always-annoying Jon Lovitz. But I've always been a Nic Cage fan so I decided I'd go ahead and give it a chance.

I'm glad I did! Like I said in the OP, I don't really understand the excessively low RT score. I thought it was a fun, heartwarming, well-made little Christmas comedy of the sort that only the 90s could produce.

It was an enjoyable film but it wasn't one of the best Christmas movies I ever seen, I did enjoy Dana Carvey's performance in that movie a lot, overall I give "Trapped In Paradise" a 7/10.

reply

I thought it was alright, one of Cage's weaker films from the 90s imo.

Looking at his filmography, I see that there are several films of his from that decade that I never saw, like Honeymoon in Vegas, Deadfall and Red Rock West, so I don't feel qualified to comment.

Obviously it's no Face/Off or The Rock. Those movies are action classics. But neither does it deserve a 10% on RT either. As I said, I enjoyed it. I thought it was a fun movie.
