Jean-Claude Van Damme: The 8 Million Dollar Man

https://lebeauleblog.com/2020/05/25/jean-claude-van-damme-the-8-million-dollar-man/

If you chart Jean-Claude Van Damme’s movie career, it very clearly peaks with the 1994 sci-fi flick, Timecop. The goal of an action star in the nineties was to have a break-out movie that expands your audience beyond the niche of martial arts movies. Steven Seagal broke out with Under Siege. The closest Van Damme came to breaking out was Timecop.

When the Muscles From Brussels graced the cover of the August 1994 issue of Movieline magazine, Timecop was about to open. Van Damme was about to peak. He was also dealing with a drug habit that would tank his career just when it was starting to take off. He was also sleeping with his Street Fighter co-star, Australian pop star Kylie Minogue. Remember that when Van Damme insists he has never and would never fool around with a costar.

The interview is vintage Van Damme. He manages to be charming and offensive in equal measures.
