Entiat is very near the middle of Washington State.
I grew up in Wenatchee (near Entiat) and actually remember them closing some of the streets down to film this movie. I'm guessing they probably shot all around that area.
I also remember thinking it was one of the coolest things to happen to our slightly less dinky town.

But this film was almost entirely shot in the forests. Why would it be filmed in a small town.
shareYou are forgetting the town sequences early in the film.
shareThe in-town shots were filmed in various locations thru the town and surrounding areas of Wenatchee, while the the majority of forest locations were filmed around Lake Wenatachee.
shareThey even hired locals to play bit parts (not unusal, I guess). I know two of the guys who appeard onscreen: the ratty-looking gray-haired man near the check-in desk (not the clerk - the other guy) at the fleabag hotel Ice-T checks into, and one of the homeless guys around the campfire. These two guys actually fit their parts. The guy by the front desk spent some time living at the local men's homeless shelter. The guy at the campfire used to run a small soup kitchen.
Trivia about that fleabag hotel: It's called the Bruce Hotel, and it really was a fleabag hotel. It was probably a nice place to stay at one time, decades ago, but it deteriorated for a very long time. At some point it went from "hotel" to "cheapass apartments". It was basically full of drug addicts because the rent was incredibly cheap. But it wasn't maintained and the city was on the verge of shutting the whole place down.
The local Women's Resource Center bought it, and a lot of volunteer labor went into fixing the place up, bringing it up to code, and making it livable again. Now it provides housing for abused and low-income women and their children. The old art-deco Bruce Hotel sign still hangs on the corner of the building.
A majority to the film was also filmed in the Lake Wenatchee area. My husband was actually Ice-T's body double.
