This movie makes no sense and here's why.

Ok first of all, I am not saying I don't like this movie, cause I do. It's actually one of my favs. It just the story doesn't fit. First he starts out a bum and wants to kill himself. These guys offer him a Job etc... he eats well and sleeps well for about a day and a night. Then next thing you know his life goes right back to crap. They want to kill him, um didn't he want to die in the first place? Ok so he manages to survive, what now? He goes back to being a bum wanting to kill himself. Maybe I am looking too much into it but it just doesn't seem to connect.

He wanted to end it himself, not be killed by a bunch of evil lunatics, even then a man's gotta have some self-respect. See those dreadlocks? That aint yer average suicidal bum my friend.

I remember when all this used to be fields

This all has to do with the pig theory.

Remember as they are eating dinner out in the wilderness, Mason asks how Cole picks out the hog for dinner. Cole says it's all in the circumstances.

Cole see's that the guy is going to kill himself, but he looks like too promising of a hunt. Cole then asks if the guy has any family, then asks if there is anyone who cares about him. Then he asks him if he wants money.

Bam.

A guy who doesn't care about life, he doesn't have anyone who would notice he was gone, and to top it off, he was going to kill himself anyway. It seems like the perfect target doesn't it?

Don't forget that Mason's friends die in the beginning also.

At the end Mason ends up realizing that life is worth living, after he fights for his life he realizes how much it's actually worth to him.

EXCELLENT answer, and well-expressed, as well (pardon the pun.)
Truly, a great movie with an awesome cast.

McGinley makes acting look as effortless as breathing.

I think right after his suicide attempt, when the Cole guy says "Everybody dies", he responds with something like "Yeah, but I'm gonna decide when". I think he was pissed off enough at the thought of being hunted that he wanted to survive.

It's one thing to kill yourself, but it's quite another to be someone else's hunting trophy!

Seriously, if he was truly suicidal, then when he woke up with a gun to his head, he'd have just said "OK, so shoot me...see how fast your clients want a refund!"

I agree with rockerb23, but on the other hand you can sum it up in two words 'survival instinct'.
