after he sets his plane trap for mason, hauer is hiding in the woods waiting for mason to get close enough so he can shoot the plane's tanks, and kill him

right after the plane explodes there's a shot of hauer's face...not a quick shot either...his pupils are red like the devil...now, i wouldn't be surprised if rutger hauer is the devil, but those eyes are absolutely evil and vicious...

made all the more terrifying that in his next scene he's in clergy garb.

That was a cool scene. I think the fire from the plane was reflecting off of his eyes.

Rutger Hauer is one of those actors that can convince you of his evilness just by looks alone. He can also act it out really well. He has these cold steely eyes, totally remorseless. He was quite evil and hateful in Nighthawks (1981), where he convincingly played an international terrorist.
