How is Saron not dead? Was that explained?

Saron is beamed aboard the enterprise B and he is visibly old with gray hair. Unless he's very prematurely graying and looks bad for his age he's still no younger than 30. Then 78 years later he's still running around and very active. What gives? He would be 108.

Or is this just chalked up to "it's the 23rd century and medicine is that advanced that 108 year olds are like 65 year olds today" or Saron's line "you can try and out run it with medicines and doctors."

Just wanted to see if anyone had thoughts...

Soran is an El-Aurian. It's established in the television series that El-Aurians have a much longer lifespan than humans (Guinan is hundreds of year old, see the episode 'Time's Arrow').

But to be fair that fact might not be explicitly stated in the film, I don't recall, so I guess you're supposed to assume?

It's inferred, since he and Guinan are the same race. But for someone who had not watched TNG, it might not be clear.

It is said in the movie that he is a 300 years old El-Aurian. And people of this race can live for many centuries (700/800 years).
