How exciting was the crash in theaters?
I'm always on the edge of my seat during the crash scene when I watch it on my TV. How exciting do you think it was to watch in the theater?

Well, 1 thing is for sure: Captain Kirk deserved a much better sendoff than this piece of shit.. The only TREK movie that matters is The Wrath of Khan
shareGet real. "Wrath of Khan" is one of the least Trek movies. Remember when Scotty melodramatically brought his wounded nephew to the Bridge instead of Sickbay (which is one of the lamest scenes in Trek history)? There are many other eye-rolling bits or logical errors, like: How could Starfleet and their cartographers not realize that an entire planet is missing in the Ceti Alpha system? How could Chekov not realize this since he’s a trained navigator for the freakin' Federation of Planets? Why didn’t Chekov realize that the Ceti Alpha system was the system in which Khan and his clan were marooned by his former captain (even assuming he wasn’t aboard the Enterprise during the 1st Season of the Original Series, he would have certainly gotten word from his Helmsman buddy Sulu, not to mention the ship's computer files)? Why does the ear slug simply leave Chekov instead of killing him as the creatures did to twenty of Khan’s people?
"Generations," by contrast, is ambitious sci-fi of the highest order, leaving the viewer with many interesting questions to ponder afterwards. Although the Nexus has been criticized as a mere gimmick to get Kirk and Picard together, it's a fascinating concept: No matter how much we want it, an illusory paradise is just that — an illusion. The idea of the Nexus and its implementation into the storyline is nothing short of brilliant. Who created the Nexus? Who else but the Talosians, the 'antagonists' of Trek's very first episode, "The Cage"! (And repeated in the two-part “The Menagerie”). Think about it.
There are other highlights: The usual Trek humor, Data’s amusing experiences with the emotion chip, Malcolm McDowell’s outstanding performance as the mad Soran, his believable obsession and justifications, B’Etor & Lursa and the renegade Klingons, the startling obliteration of them and their vessel, the thrilling crash-landing of the Enterprise-D, the meeting of Kirk and Picard n the Nexus, the final showdown with Soran and Kirk’s death.
I am real and far older than you and YES, Wrath of Khan was widely considered the Best of the TREK movies, so do your research before posting
share"Wrath of Khan" is overrated. "The Motion Picture," "The Search for Spock" and "The Voyage Home" are all significantly better, not to mention "The Undiscovered Country" and "Generations." "Wrath" has some points of interest amidst the godawful bits -- like the Genesis device -- but I'd watch the quasi-remakes "Nemesis" and "Into Darkness" over it any day.
shareWhat planet was missing?
shareThe "missing planet" is Ceti Alpha VI, which exploded 6 months after Khan & his people were exiled on Ceti Alpha V, fifteen years prior. Captain Terrell & First Officer Chekov were curiously unaware of this when they beamed down to Khan's planet, mistaking it for Ceti Alpha VI because the orbit of Ceti Alpha V changed due to the cataclysm.
share"Generations" may be "ambitious", but "The Wrath of Khan" is better executed, and Montalban is a better villain. It's a better movie.
shareMontalban was great in the episode "Space Seed" as the writers really fleshed out his character of Khan in many great scenes with stimulating dialogue, but there’s very little of this in "The Wrath of Khan." All Khan seems to do in this movie is scowl at “Kiiirrrrk” with angry, beady eyes (and, yes, I realize he’s analogous of Captain Ahab). It's comic booky one-dimensional and therefore uninteresting.
There are some interesting bits in TWOK, but it's my least favorite of the franchise for reasons stated. "Generations" blows it out of the water, as far as I'm concerned.
But if you hail TWOK, it's all good. More power to ya.
Ok, when you said "How exciting was the crash in theatres", I thought you were referring to this movies box office run at the time this came out because I don't recall this being received very well??
shareNot a fan of this movie, but that crash scene still holds up. It’s a great example for why models & props look so much better (& real) compared to CGI. I saw the latest Star Trek Beyond recently which has the enterprise saucer crash into a planet & it was totally lame compared to Generations crash. Miss real FX…
shareI saw it at the theater and I didn’t think the crash was an exceptional action scene as movies go. I also didn’t really care to see the flagship of the Federation taken down by a Bird of Prey. The Enterprise D should have swatted it away like a mosquito.
shareCool.
But it looked even more like a model and miniatures on the big screen.
