Can't Fly A Ship Into The Nexus Plot Hole

This is a plot device that always bothered me. Our introduction to the Temporal Nexus is when the Alurian ships had sent out a distress call and the Enterprise-B sees them in the ribbon being torn apart. The first ship explodes and the 2nd, the Lakul, blows up after 47 of her members were rescued. We then find out that Soran and Guinan(and probably everyone else) was ripped from the Nexus. After the Lakul explodes and the Enterprise starts to leave, the Nexus ribbon lashes out severely damaging the Enterprise, taking Kirk with it. Later in the movie we're told you can't fly a ship into it because it would be destroyed. Well, the Lakul containing Soran was destroyed and before it was, he was being drawn into it so it IS conceivable you can fly into it. Just seem a strange deus ex machina to me.
