Fighting the Klingons (or whomever) as opposed to having them fight someone on an old bridge in a canyon.
Yeah, that climactic fight left much to be desired anyway. I mean...the death-defying Kirk getting killed by a bridge. That's awful. Sure, he was fighting an evil character against heavy odds, but still, it was a very uninventive, weak exit for James T. Kirk.
