If Payne had gotten his way(blow up the bus), I highly doubt that he would make another ransom demand

Let me say why. If he had gotten his money, and blew up the bus anyway (since he thinks that bombs are made to explode), if he was smart (which he seemed pretty smart), I doubt that he would make another ransom demand because they would know that he would blow up whatever he threatened to blow up anyway, so why pay him and make a bomber rich? That's why I doubt that if he had gotten his way that he would make another ransom demand.

If he had the money and the bus had exploded, he would have fled to some non extradition country with a tropical climate and enjoyed his retirement.

Of course he wouldn't set up another bomb, he would have no need too.

Unless he was just that psychotic that he would set more bombs just for fun, which he made clear in this movie that he wasn't.

You got it. I mean he only wanted this bus to blow up (or the elevator) because the bomb was something he created, and he wanted to feel important after he felt he was treated like crap. Also if he were a sadist, when he blew up the bus just to show that he's alive, he would have blown up a bus full of people.

If Payne had gotten his money and survived, I think he'd be back at some point

His driving motivation was revenge against the system that cost him his thumb AND a need to show off how smart he is

The money was just an excuse, in my opinion, albeit an excuse that Payne himself may well have believed

But after a few years in Thailand or Venezuela, he'd be back with more bombs. After a career spent chasing "mad bombers," Payne finally became one himself.
