This movie is great! I have seen it many times on vhs and on tv. However, I just purchased it on DVD. The picture is great and so is the sound! Having home theater is a plus and it sounded great!

I disagree with the review that says this movie was just so-so and that Meryl didn't act good. What movie was he watching? Meryl did great... she is a fantastic actress and really pulled it off. Not only could she act well and believable, but she did most of the rafting herself! She had to get into great shape for this roll. So did all the other actors... great job!

This movie is suspensful, great acting and some of the most beautiful scenry in the nation... Makes you want to go white water rafting! Well, just the "baby" waves that is....

I wish more action adventure movies were made like this!

I agree, this film is great... and Kevin bacon does a good job of playing the bad guy =P

Yes! I did watch it last nite... how did you know? LOL I watched it on DVD of course...

Oh by the way... I also love metal music and just saw Metallica a few weeks ago in concert... AWESOME is all I can say....

I knew you watched it 2 nights ago because it was on BBC1 (in the UK), so due to your surprise of me guessing that you watched it last night, i'm assuming you're not from the UK =D

Your right... I'm not from the UK... I'm from the U.S.A. But do have English and Scot-Irish (or Scotch-Irish as originally called) as part of my heritage...

Always wanted to go Ireland or Scotland... so damn you! for living there and getting to see all that beauty! ha ha ha Take care

Most of it's countryside here, except for Glasgow... so, um, yeah, it's nice =D

i just saw it....i loved it!!! i thought kevin bacon did a great acting job...i thought it was f**cked up when he shot the ranger

totally...i loved this movie, just made my friend watch it with me on dvd, she knows im the biggest Meryl Streep fan of all time, so she agreed...she liked it also...man, i wish i was the boy in that film, hes so lucky to have worked with THE Meryl herself...even though im a girl, it could have been arranged. lol...its just my opinion but, i think Meryl would have had better chemistry with a girl, seeing she has 3 already!

yeah, movie was pretty good, however it would have been nice to be able to see what was going on during the night scenes.....some of these film makers need to go back to "lighting school" (remember in the old days when they used blue lights for night scenes?)

i'm not a meryl streep fan but i did enjoy her performance in this movie.

oh, and as for BOB THE MOO's review, he states:
"This aspect is still quite enjoyable even if it is not as tight as it really needed to be and, as a non-rafter, I wasn't sure how intimidated I was meant to be by the load of water that was the gauntlet."

well, although i'm not an expert white water rafter, i have been on the Lower New River (up to class IV+) and on the Upper Gauley (class V+) and trust me when i say, that water on THE GAUNTLET was certainly intimidating.

as for MERYL's line to her "son" about the rating of rapids, she states something about the Gauntlet being a V+ and that that's the highest they go...
sorry, but that's wrong...rapids are rated up to class VI.

I haven't seen this movie in a while, but I remeber really enjoying it when I was younger. It's amazing that Meryl Streep did all of the rafting herself. It definatly motivates you to go white water rafting!

I think its a great movie also! I started to like it when I was around 8 when I found the movie in a box full of movies in a closet here at my house. My friend and I always used to watch that movie whenever she came over..We dont anymore because she moved to Tennessee this year. But whenever she comes to visit Im sure we'll watch it! Anyways it's like we're obsessed with the movie..lol not really but you know what I mean. But I guess The River Wild is like "our" movie..our "friend" movie..if you want to put it that way.

OMG it was like incredible it wasnt boring or anything i loved it. I watched it at my aunts on DVD on thanksgiving and it was jus great 9/10

You are so right.. This a great movie full of action. I like the background music and the location of it was very beautiful. Do you happen to know where this movie was filmed at? I looks like somewhere in Idaho or Montana. I have it and I watch often. I like Joseph Mazzello and Kevin Bacon and of course Meryl Streep. She not only had fun, but did a great job of acting. She is in lots of movies.

I read it was filmed in Montana. The rivers are located there....

I always thought the film looked like somewhere in Montana and it is a very beautiful movie and show nature as is beautiful. The back ground music helps describe that river scene. I bet all the actors really enjoy making that film.

Such a great thriller. I've always enjoyed it since I was a young child. Meryl Streep and Kevin Bacon were great.

It's actually on TV now, so I'm gonna watch :)
