What an annoying 'Score'

I mean really, do we have to listen to "The Water is Wide" every 10 minutes? Gosh. It's a good song but overuse of themes can totally destroy a movie.

The song goes back way before the movie was ever made

The overall score, I hate to say... was pleasant enogh that I even bought the soundtrack to shortly after it came out on VHS.

Jerry Goldsmith is no John Williams, but he produced an excellent score for the movie that really set the tone & pace. So what if some of it is based off of the one song which is eventually played in the end... it's a great score.

I thought the score was beautiful. It reminded me of the great movie composers of Hollywood's golden age: Max Steiner, Herbert Stothart, Franz Waxman...I think Jerry Goldsmith ranks with the best of them. The score captured the majestic beauty of the scenery.

Like someone said above, Goldsmith is no John Williams but some of the music played in this movie was spectacular.

If you want overused? Watched Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Patrick Doyle used the same theme throughout. When there was an emotional scene he made it minor, when there was a triumphant scene, he made it major. That's overuse for you.

Also, Hans Zimmer and James Horner all repeat their scores not just in the same movies but in other movies too.

You should know that the original score was composed and conducted by Maurice Jarre for this film. For whatever reason. Jarre's score was rejected and Goldsmith brought in. Because of this it was probably a rush job for Goldsmith even by Hollywood standards.

I have not seen the film with the G. score. I have watched about 8 minutes of the film with Jarre's score. I found it both appropriate and effective.

the score for TRW sounded very much like the score to Rambo II

I found the overused of orchestral music through out the entire movie was annoying, and it's like a constant reminder of > You Are Watching A Traditional Hollywood Movie ".

Yeah, the score strikes me as old-fashioned and hackneyed, although it has some cheese charm because of that. I would have liked to see the film with Maurice Jarre's score to see if I like that better.
