Mark Van Doren Reads Poetry, ca. 1967

Someone mentioned in another thread (regarding Paul Scofield’s magnificent intonation of the line “Your name is mine, Charlie!” in this film, and it made me wonder What did the real Mark Van Doren sound like? Hunting the web a few minutes, I discovered the answer, which might interest some of you folks. Here at http://writing.upenn.edu/pennsound/x/Van-Doren.html are various clips of Mark Van Doren reading poetry for an album released in 1967, some 5 years before his death. The voice is not as grand as Scofield’s perhaps, but fascinating just the same I thought.
