Martin Scorsese as the sponsor...
I understand his cameo appearances in his own movies, but how/why did he appear in another directors movie? Btw, he was pretty good!

shareYou can ask the same thing about Barry Levinson and Douglas McGrath. Scorsese isn't the only film director to have a part in the film.
We live in a society where pizza gets to your house before the police.
Why not? He can't do that? Maybe he was asked by Robert Redford and he agreed to do it. By the way, Redford beat him out for the Best Director Oscar in 1980! And the only time I've seen him in a cameo in his own films is in Taxi Driver as a Passenger. This was when he had his facial hair.
shareScorsese also appears in MEAN STREETS. He's the gunman in the back seat of Ricahrd Romanus's car. His voice is also heard as Harvey Keitel's internal "voice."
"May I bone your kipper, Mademoiselle?"
He also played a photographer in Hugo.
FYC: Three-time Academy Awards nominee Angela Lansbury for an Honorary Oscar
He also did the opening narration in The Color of Money. He may have been in bit parts in other movies or hidden in crowd shots.
shareHe did a cameo in Gangs of New York as the father of a rich family.
He also appeared (with Deniro) in the film "Guilty By Suspicion"
directed by Irwin Winkler playing a blacklisted director.
He has done voice cameos in many of his own films.
He appeared as Vincent Van Gogh in Akira Kurosawa's
film "Dreams"
He also has an uncredited part as one of Paul Bartel's heavy's in Cannonball 1976

he seemed a little too natural in that performance!
'I'm not making art, I'm making sushi.'-Masaharu Morimoto
I thought he was great btw. He is great in the courtroom scene. "And, and I would even say that money should be returned"
sharefunny too.
Key to winning baseball games? Pitching, fundamentals, and three run homers.-Earl Weaver
Scorsese also appeared in The Age of Innocence, he was a photographer.
He also showed up in The King of Comedy, he is the director of the tv show, and has a line, he says "That is actually funny".
And who can forget Shark Tale.
"Strength and Wisdom are not Opposing Values"
Scorsese turned up so he could tell Redford he should had got the Best Director Oscar for Raging Bull!
Its that man again!!
@stanleybix-1 I'm just glad that I could understand what Scorsese was saying. Usually he talks at 100 miles an hour:

In this movie he slowed down to a steady 98mph.
