BIG mistake

In my opinion it was one of the BIGGEST mistakes in cinematic history to make this film. Does anybody agree they should've left it at just the first movie? Oh I didn't mind Shelly's pregnancy and the baby...but I hated that they changed who Vada's mother was and I also hate that she goes to find out about her mother and gets stuck through the whole movie with a boy who I would sooner knock his teeth out than kiss him if I were her, especially after the stunt he pulled with the ring. What's everybody else think?

I thought the biggest mistake in my opinion was changing Vada's character so much. In the first one she's free-spirited, quirky and young. But it the second it's so different, she's so much more elloquent, but she seemed to have lost that quality that made her so likeable in My Girl.

I also agree with Novastar, I didn't mind Shelley's pregnancy either, in the plot of the movie it seemed right. The stuff with Nick turned it into just another Hollywood movie, she only knew the kid for five days, right?

Well, to be honest, a LOT has changed since the first movie. The end of the first movie showed that when Thomas J died. She's no longer a little girl. Her best friend died which was a HUGE turning point, and her father remarried and she has a baby brother (which she doesn't know is a boy yet) on a way. Of course she's matured and more eloquent. She's had a lot go on. Anyone who thinks they're going to remain the same after changes like that is off their rocker. She's still Vada, just older and wiser.

I disagree. I loved the first one, and wasn't expecting much from this because people told me it's not true to Vada's original spirit, but when i saw it - i went OMG every ten minutes. I think this movie is beautiful and a great sequel.

The first one was a lot better, but I like this movie too. I actually watch this one more since it's not so sad.

I agree that the movie wasn't the best or as good as part one, but it's okay. Sometimes it is hard for the producers and staff to come up with a good sequel to a movie, therefore that most likely means that they probably shouldn't bother with it. But I have seen much worse movie sequels. Lets see... Weekend at Bernie's Part 2 was horrible in my opinion.

The first movie was basically made bc of Maccaully Culkin--well it was. And when he did not sign onto the second, they should have not attempted this.

It was trying to make him a heart throb when he was in some kind of weird relationship with Michael Jackson at the time. Bad combo.

The way you worded that made it seem like you were saying that they wanted him to come back for a sequel, but he chose not to come back.

I don't think there was much choice in regards to bringing him back.
