The bad man in the closet

I do love this movie, but I always found something morbidly hilarious and equally disturbing at the same time. That what if the bad man in the closet was a kid playing a joke on Tiger.

Or if the bullets went right through the walls and into the next room, where the other boys were sleeping. Rough way to wake up, with a bullet (hopefully) just whizzing by your ear!!

reply

Only two of the cadets were in the ROTC building. The rest where in the barracks outside. The two boys may have slept in the same room.

That's exactly what I thought (except I hated the movie). He could have killed someone.

I know it was a comedy, but damn! Also, his voice was really annoying, making the film a somewhat tortuous experience. Oh, and that dancing scene - it was completely out of character. It was like Wayans realised his character in the film was really boring, and he had to act like someone else for at least one scene.

reply

Well If it did go through the wall or there was someone in the closet playing games, Then He aint Happy

reply

The voice was like that on purpose. It's picking on the way a lot of drill sargeants talk. And the dancing scene was more like saying that underneath all of that military stuff was an actuall person, and I'm guessing it was remnants of him BEFORE the military.

I just like to shake things up a bit...

reply

I'm sure the voice was like that on purpose. But that doesn't stop him being really annoying.

"at underneath all of that military stuff was an actuall person"
Right, a comedian actor. No-one dances like that! It was like he just broke character, so the 'actuall person' underneath the Major was Wayans himself, not the Major before he went into the military.

reply

What you find annoying me and my buds had a blast watching yesterday

reply

Yes, Tiger & Cadet Leland (the kid in the glasses) shared the room (bunkbeds). I know, I was there.

reply

Right, a comedian actor. No-one dances like that!

What makes you say nobody dances like that, perhaps Major Payne was a Michael Jackson fan? because those moves he did were basically some of Jackson's. As the other person said the dance was to show that Payne wasn't just about Killing and Military but a person who had other interest as well.

reply

What Major Payne did to get rid of the "bad man" was absurd. Being a fan of absurdity, I loved the scene! It's a silly movie and requires a suspension of disbelief.

"This is not good for my rage."

reply

Meh, I don't buy it...

reply

Hey AndyRyan your a dumbass, I cant stand when people get on here and say stupid ignorant *beep* Just shut up and watch the movie, if you dont like it then keep your dumb comments to yourself. What do you expect for him to dance like chris brown, it was a good scene and it fit well into the movie. Just shows how (chick from fresh prince) was getting under his skin and softening him up instead of being a tight ass all the time regardless if you buy or not jackass!

YOU GOT THE JUICE NOW!

reply

That's funny, you calling someone else a dumbass, when you don't even know the difference between 'your' and 'you're'. What a clown!

reply

Is that the only comeback you have for him? You're picking on his spelling? Well, sorry to break it to you, but he's right. You need to lighten up.
You're right, nobody dances like that but you have to remember, this is a comedy. There are lots of things in this movie that nobody "really does."

Do you think he would be allowed to keep his job after firing several rounds into a boy's closet? Do you really think he would actually break someone's finger to help them "take their mind of that pain"?

If you can't enjoy the absurdity of the movie, then go somewhere else.

If you can't enjoy the absurdity of my post then YOU should go somewhere else.

Even a comedy can have suspension of disbelief. In fact it's pretty essential. The film sets up the rules and sticks to them. And character comedy relies on believing in that character, regardless of how outlandish. So I can take that in this movie's world, people act weirdly and the Major can get away with acting all weird. Just like in Superman I accept that in this world, an alien can fly.

But in the dancing scene Wayans came right out of character. He might as well have said 'OK, I'm not really a Major, I'm just Damon doing a silly dance right now.'.

And yes, it does take away from your credibility if you type like a 10-year-old.

reply

Have you ever tried to pick up a girl, they like dancing and it was obvious the whole movie she was working her charms on him and the dancing was just a continuation of that. I thought it was funny the ultimate hard ass still falls for the pretty eyes and smile.

And obviously the dance was outlandish...it is a comedy after all...

reply

I'm old, more to the point Damon Wayans and I are the same age. Since he was doing the Robot in the movie's timeframe of 1995, the dance is supposed to show that the 'Robot' was in vogue when last he danced (73-75). For instance, his date says, "no one does the 'Robot' anymore.", or something to that effect. Also, before they dance, Major Payne says," I been known (past tense) to cut a little rug". That is a very old way of saying that he used to dance...a lot.

One fun thing I like about the movie is, in every day life Major Payne walks with a military baton up is a$$, and on the dance floor he does the Robot, a dance that looks like you have a stick of your a$$. I thought it just fits right.

Oh, and about the shooting with extreme prejudice I had a passing thought of what could really be in the closet, but I chose to believe it's the evil monkey from Family Guy.

I just watched that scene in the dining hall at my school. I laughed so hard I cried. I thoroughly embarrassed myself. I, personally, loved the way he handled the situation.

reply

Parents have been fighting the bad man in the closet/under the bed for decades. He just dealt with it military style. Just a version of the monster under the bed/in the closet.

reply

I think that scene was so hilarious simply because it was horribly disturbing.
