The fascinating thing about this movie

Is that the whole premise is completely ridiculous, from start to finish, every step of the way.

And yet, the writing, acting, camerawork, music, direction, pacing, editing are all simply impeccable.

A fascinating contrast.

So I've watched the movie many times because I enjoy it so much on an artistic level, even though on a plausibility level I find it completely laughable.

It should be against the law to use 'LOL'; unless you really did LOL!

Typical juvenile thinking.

Have you seen "Kick-Ass"? Mathilda is meek in comparison to Hit-Girl.

You are of course correct in the broad sense but isn't that a primary reason we enjoy movies? To escape from the mundane and for 90 or 120 minutes be a part of the implausible? Is it plausible that a famous American movie star would ask a meek bookshop owner to love him? (Notting Hill). Is it plausible that a 17-yr-old would go back 30 years to his parents' high school days and change history? (BTTF)

You'd be bored silly if movies only dwelt in the plausible.

12 year old Natalie Portman would make a great a hit girl

Nobody except Natalie Portman gives a good performance. The score is decent sometimes but is overall nothing special. The premise is interesting but the writing is terrible. It's just not a good script. The dialogue is what you'd expect from a dumb action flick, not an intelligent drama. The direction is not good. If this had been written and directed by somebody else, the film wouldn't have been so ridiculous.

But maybe my opinion will change with repeat viewings. It doesn't help that I haven't liked any of Luc Besson's other films.

What didn't you like about the actor who played Malki?

He was alright.

The most fascinating thing about it is that a straight up B-movie can have such a high rating.

What's wrong with b movies? So only Hollywood blockbusters should have high ratings?

Since you find the movie completely laughable, Maybe you just need to consider the movie to be a comedy and let it go a that. Just think how much you could enjoy the movie that way. Something to think about.
