Saw it again last night

It has been about 5 years. Great to see this in a cinema. Still an excellent film but was anyone else put off by the score in parts of the movie?

I can't help but feel less music in some of the quieter moments particularly when Leon first takes Mathilda in would have made more of an impact.

Interesting how different viewers react to the same movie. I have seen it countless times and never had an issue with the score. In fact I now have the BluRay version and one of the things that was improved over the DVD is the sound track, particularly the very deep bass in certain scenes. I'll have to rewatch that scene you cite and see if I can relate to your comment.

I know this has been said before, (but it's true) the score is like another character in the film. For me, the score and the way it is presented through out the film, is perfect in every way.

For me, the score just got in the way between the two lead characters. But only in spots. It could be that because I'm a musician so I'm just picky when it comes to what I like to hear during scenes. It may also be I was in a cinema this time so the volume was higher with the soundtrack right in my face.

It's a minor complaint of an otherwise great film :-)

I am a musician too!  Trumpet most of my life plus Barbershop Quartet singing.

I still plan to re-watch that scene today, you may be right, it might have been the theater sound adjustment.

I would love to see this film, in a cinema again, it's been over 20 years for me. Besson' s style of film making is always awesome at the theater. I would really like to hear this soundtrack in a modern day cinema. I'm not a musician, but I like all kinds of music, and this score is one of my favorites.

I'm thinking it might have been the sound balance in the theater. I just watched the scene on my BluRay, starting about 32 minutes in when Matilda is ringing Leon's doorbell to get in, scared. The sound track there is mostly deep bass drum and some clanking sounds, appropriate for the drama.

Then as she gets inside and she and Leon are sitting at the table, finding out who each other is the music is primarily soft violins, oboe, and flute, with occational tympany, all played rather softly as they speak. Seems very appropriate.
