Why do we see this film, so differently?

There is always a very diverse audience, when discussing this film. One side claiming that some dark themes are being implied, One side defending against that claim, and another side not sure either way. There are so many people, that would like to see a sequel to, Leon: The Professional. They wait patiently, as the years keep rolling by, but I'm sure we will never see one.

With all of the attacks and criticisms aimed at Besson, about this story, there is no doubt why he never had an interest, in writing a sequel to this film. Why do some people see a dark theme within the film, while others like myself do not? Are we clueless to this concept, because we look deeper into the story?

It's hard for me to believe, that Besson would try to suggest some dark meaning, into the film, and then try and hide it, within this beautifully written story. Surrendering to the conclusion, that this film's sole purpose, is to imply a sexual strain between the two characters,I would consider that to be clueless, to the concept that this film is based upon. This film is based on a Love Story. There is definitely a Love Interest between Leon and Mathilda, there should be no question about that, it's all right there for everyone, to see. Those that refuse to see it as such, will see something else entirely.

For me, the most compelling concept within the film, is this. I see two lonely people, searching for something, to make their life more complete. I see an adult, that doesn't have the courage to obtain it, and a child that is not yet mature enough, to see it.

What do you see???

Good points, and I will answer to your "what do you see" but in a manner quite different from your intent.

I am curious, where were you educated? You express yourself very well but you put 'commas' in places that violate traditional rules of composition. For example, this sentence you wrote:

It's hard for me to believe, that Besson would try to suggest some dark meaning, into the film, and then try and hide it, within this beautifully written story.

You have 4 'commas' and none of them are called for, if you read the sentence this way it reads just fine:

It's hard for me to believe that Besson would try to suggest some dark meaning into the film and then try and hide it within this beautifully written story.

I have noticed that you do something similar in all your posts on various boards. So in the spirit of your post, wondering "why" about themes in this movie, I wonder "why" about your use of 'commas.' Please elaborate. Not knocking you so much as to try to understand because your writing style is unique.

Sorry for the inconvenience! I was never really good in English class, in fact I was horrible. I always received poor grades because of my lack of interest. I never learned the proper way to construct a sentence, identifying verbs adverbs adjectives nouns pronouns, the use of commas etc. So I guess I am paying for it now. As far as my Education, it was in no way the fault of my school or my teachers. Since I neglected the opportunity to learn when I had the chance, I have no one to blame but myself. I'm sure there are a few missing or out of place in this post. It's never too late to learn as they say. I will try to do better in the future.

I appreciate your frank reply. I don't see the excessive use of commas as a big issue in casual communication, as we do here on the IMDb, I was just curious if you maybe were from a non-English speaking part of the world. However if you were to ever compose something for a more important use you might want someone to proof it for you. Even though you say you had no interest when younger you express yourself very well, better than maybe 95% of those who come to these boards.

As a point of interest ..... I know a very nice lady .... who also is intelligent but her style .... is to put a bunch of periods .... as I am doing here ... where she intends to pause. It is jolting the first time you see it but after a while I got used to it.

I have noticed on this board and others that you express your opinions very openly. To express your opinions in a kind manner, as you have done with me that is an admirable quality. Thank you! and thanks for the kind words.
