The Plant

One of my favorite scenes of Mathilda is when she places the plant in the window. While gazing at the plant she shows the hint of a smile, before turning and looking off into the distance. Even though this scene is extremely short, I believe it reveals that a change has taken place inside Mathilda. It is easy to see that she is experiencing a feeling of contentment while alone, quite possibly for the first time in her life.

A question that always comes to mind, What is Mathilda thinking at that moment? Could Leon's plant, in some way, be symbolic of a feeling of hope? or love for Mathilda. I think this scene, although very brief, lends a lot for the imagination and this is a rare moment, where we see Mathilda at ease with her thoughts.
