I know they game him a diploma for whatever it is he went to school for which is also questionable. Haven't watch the movie in years and it just crossed my mind. Where did he go or what he was doing while in school? Of course I expect the coaches and perhaps dean played around with the process of him walking across the stage.

Or maybe I am just looking too deep into the movie.

Hard to say. This was before college football was big money but certainly within the time frame of wealthy alums greasing the skids for a ringer. I am thinking that somehow Gump took some basic courses such as auto mechanics but somebody twisted the arms of Alabama administrators to inflate Gump's grades to maintain academic eligibility which was an issue during those times.

After 5 years of playing football I got a college degree. Love that line, its so true.
