The Seabass scam

Did anyone ever know of a scam like this before this film? I'm sure anyone who's watched the movie knows what I'm talking about. The Seabass offered to get are cheques scam lol. Or, has anyone ever tried this scam? C'mon, tell the truth if you have, I really want to hear all about it, if it worked for you.

hahah it will probably not work in a million years.

it was great though.. still haven't seen the movie they refer to.

Yeah, what always struck me was that after walking to the counter and saying Seabass offered to pay for them, the waitress expresses disbelief and looks over at their table. Seabass then gestures to them, meaning; "Bring the beers over here". But of course the waitress mistakes for agreement to pay.

I know this was really only done in movie to make sure the scam worked properly, but I always thought that bit was unlikely. It seemed a bit too convenient that Seabass would make that gesture as just the right time. And there's no way a waitress would just take your word that somebody else had offered to pay if Seabass hadn't indicated like that.

Can't see it working in real life.

and not to mention Seabass didn't look like the kind of dude who'd offer to pay for anything
lol

Apparently the movie Lloyd is referring to ("I saw it in a movie once...") is Something Wild (1986), and Jeff Daniels plays the guy who pulled the scam lol

I just learned about it recently through the "Trivia" section on Dumb and Dumber's IMDb page. I still have yet to watch that other movie though.

(p.s. Tell Dante he's not even supposed to be here today!)

LOL I told him. He's bitching about someone jamming gum in the locks. Bunch of savages in this town

reply

That is one line that I quote literally every goddamn day, at least 20 times lol Because, well, bunch of savages in this town. Doesn't matter which town, either lol

reply

I'll give that a watch. That's so cool that they referenced it like that.
