I personally prefer the theatrical cut to the extended cut

I find that the jokes and humor flows much better in the theatrical cut over the extended edition.

First time I saw the extended cut I felt it really hurt it and slows it down. I mean, still HILARIOUS but not as much as the other version. Even though 95% of the movie is exactly the same, the extra stuff and alternate takes were a mistake IMHO.

Anyone else feel the same...???

Either way, damn this movie is a classic.

Yeah, the extended scenes just aren't as funny.

Let's be bad guys.

You are DEFINITELY not the only one - I've seen so many others on here with the exact same complaint, myself included. The deleted/extended scenes don't add anything.

Sadly though, it seems like nowadays, the unrated version is all that's readily available.

I see you're drinking 1%. Is that cause you think you're fat?

reply

As soon as I saw the unrated cut, I knew I had to go buy the theatrical version before it went out of print.

Let's be bad guys.

I did the same thing, found the DVD on ebay cause I just couldn't find it anywhere else.

reply

I watched the unrated cut once and have tried so hard to forget it, due to the bad taste it left in my mouth.

As such, I only have the DVD and will never buy the Blu-Ray until, hopefully, one day they release the theatrical cut.

The theatrical cut shows just how important good editing is. They made a great classic out of a mediocre comedy, just by trimming up the right scenes. It's a shame that it's not readily available anymore.

reply

Yeah I'm not a fan of the gay jokes that were added.

When thinking about this film, I wonder if the film makers think of the unrated cut and deleted scenes as being part of the actual film. The sequel did feel more close to what was cut from the original more so than the theatrical version. Such as being unnecessarily gross, characters being a little self aware, and a little mean spirited

The theatrical version of Dumb & Dumber is an absolute classic but unfortunately; I don't think the filmmakers quite agreed seeing as how the sequel turned out :(

reply

I'm sure if the extended was the original version, we'd love it. But regardless, I think the theatrical flows so much better. I wouldn't want to watch the extended ever again.

I also do not want to watch the sequel ever again. They should burn the movie and pronounce it as non canon. It is an insult to the 94 movie in every way.

reply

Agree, I'll stick with the theatrical cut

Same here.. the extended hot tub scene between Harry and Lloyd in the motel got quite nasty whereas the edit flows nicer. I'm perfectly OK with the theatrical cut!

Picked up the Theatrical on iTunes. It comes with the Unrated and a bunch of extras, including even longer versions of the already drawn out unrated scenes.

We need to thank the editor or studio chief that overruled the Farrellys. It’s incredible how the unrated kills the pacing, tone, and ruins the innocence of the characters.

Yeah, the jokes theatrical cut is better. The jokes that were removed originally were removed for a reason. They just didn't work as well.

Seems though that the people in charge of these things disagree. Even when it's on TV now, they show the extended cut.

reply

I've only seen the theatrical.
