is this cheating?

i know i know the mighty ducks had alot of *beep* stuff in it but i love em all!!

great memeries as a kid and even now when im 19...

im just wondering about the scene where russ tyler pretends to be goldberg and ties the game up to force it into a penalty shootout...

if this happened in real life would they have been penalized/disqualified or something like that? is it illegal to pretend that one of your players is a goalie?

reply

the play would have been blown down since Russ took off his mask to shoot the puck

reply

not to mention that

A) you could never have a goalie and player take off pads and switch with each other without anybody noticing

B) like the guy above me said, you cant take off your helmet

C) from his own zone he would never ever score

D) it was just funny as *beep* to watch haha

reply

Yeah, I didn't like how that scene played out.

reply

what were they thinking when they made that scene?

reply

They were thinking it's a movie for kids and none of them would know the difference - which was probably 90% true.

Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can't lose.

reply

I agree with the poster above me they were thinking of making a kid movie and weren't expecting people who had too much time on their hand to question every thing about a movie instead of enjoying it

reply

I don't remember exactly where he shot it from (which is odd, since part one and two air basically nonstop lately on various Encore channels... but no part 3, what's up with that?). However, had Russ skated past the center red line to take the shot, he would have been called for a delay of game penalty, as goalies are not allowed to play the puck past the center line. Which may sound like a ridiculous rule, but I know I have seen Patrick Roy get called for it.

The more glaring problem, as already mentioned, is that anyone who plays goal knows how horribly long suiting up/down takes, so switching their equipment would have taken at least 20 minutes, but most likely much longer.

But again, pointing out the flaws in sports realism in these movies seems rather unnecessary.

Well actually it is possible to switch a player to a goalie in the course of a game but there are several rule infringements on this sequence

1) as mentioned, no way they could put the goal equipment on him that quick or without anyone noticing
2) he takes off his mask which is a penalty for a goaltender (and automatic whistle
3) he steps over centre to shoot which is a penalty
4) there is at least one duck player over the blue line which means it's a delayed offside and thus should not count as a goal
5) to even switch russ to goal, the ducks would have had to scratch one of their regular goalies (can only have 2 players listed as goalies at a time) but both goalies appear in the shootout
6) not really a rule infringement but a goof; they score with no time left and no iceland players protest. No way this would happen in any caliber of hockey.

reply

yeah it takes at least 20 mins to put on the goalie leg pads

reply

okay, as a former goalie, i could put everything on in 5 mins, which is still much longer than a 30 second timeout bombay calls. If I recall correctly, he shoots from his own blue line, which wouldn't break any rules. I believe putting someone new in net without telling the refs is against the rules.

reply

One more.
You cannot wear another player's jersey. I'm not sure what the consequences is.
But for sure, I know it's not allowed.

reply

It would be protestable if that happened and the ducks would lose the game by default.

well to be fair, Iceland was cheating as well before the timeout as they had 6 skaters on the ice.

There were 3 of them pushing Russ up against boards, and then there were 3 more skating around in the next scene.

lol, this movie was so messed up
