Why was Charlie so upset about not being called ducks?

I understand the fact that he has always been a duck, and that he didn't want the team's identity lost in the shuffle, but the USA ducks/ at least use our own colors? If I were representing the USA in any sports competition I would be more than glad to sport the red white and blue (especially if they looked anything like the ones they wore in the movie).

Representing your country is an honor, and in my opinion trumps any other team affiliation. World Cup participants are the shining example of country trumping a player's proffessional employer.

I agree. I didn't understand so much when I was younger. I used to think it was cool when they came out in Ducks jerseys. Now, I'm thinking, wait a minute! F#ck the ducks. This is f#cking Team USA. This isn't some stupid little Minnesota little league hockey team. This is the big time. You wear the Red, White, and Blue. And if you can't win in those colors, you don't deserve to play in the World games!

reply

Charlie annoyed with that too.
I would think that it wouldn't be allowed to switch jerseys during a game. It would probably throw off the other team giving them an unfair advantage.

When I watched his movie as a kid, I also liked the part when they came out in Ducks jerseys. A few nights ago, I watched this movie again at a friend's house. I hadn't seen this movie in a long time. But when they came out in the Ducks jersey I saw how it ridiculous it was for them not to be wearing their Team USA uniforms. Some of the members of Team USA weren't apart of the Ducks team from the previous film.

Well, it goes to show that it's a kids' movie. Changing colors made sense when I was six, but now it's just eye-roll inducing. You're right--playing for your country always trumps playing for your team. And think about it--Luis, Fulton, Dean, Julie, Averman, and Ken weren't Ducks, just Charlie and his friends. They were brought in from all over the country and came together as Team USA. Makes Charlie's whining make even less sense.

Actually, Averman and Fulton were part of the original Ducks team. They were in the first movie, remember?

Anyway, looking back, I agree with all of you.

All I need is one mic...

yeah and in the first 2 charlie isn't all that great and in the 3rd hes the best. i would have liked to see them stay as team USA.I am Canadian i would be proud to support Canada in a Canada Jersey.
I guess it shows that the new ducks and Old ducks unite under a new banner and can be a team. What i don't get is cant they win with out being Ducks?. i also think they made Charlie too much of a coaches pet If I were representing the USA in any sports competition I would be more than glad to sport the red white and blue.the Jerseys were real cool looking.

Charlie was upset because the Ducks was all he had known in the game, and he hated the fact of losing part of his identity, he wouldn't really understand the commercial side of the game, he is only about 13-14 in the film...

And changing shirts at half time, surely that is against the rules of any competition

reply

It's an INTERNATIONAL tournament with players representing their country, even a 14 year old would know that you need to play as your country. How silly would it have been having Canada, Russia, Iceland, Italy, Trinidad, Finland, Sweden, and.... the ducks?

And yes changing uniforms is illegal.

They weren't always the Ducks. Where's the love for District-5?

reply

The reason Charlie was so upset is because he is a big ole pussy that does tonnes of this shyte throughout the trilogy.

reply

I think Charlie just loved being a duck n ddnt understand y they couldn't be ducks representing America, I mean rightfully so he's a kid...
As in response to some of the other replies to this post about the colors and representing your country and if you can't do it in those colors then you don't deserve to be there...
Well first off we have to remember this is a kids film and you just have to look at with the eyes an innocence of a child!
It wasn't about disrespecting the colors or their country it was about how playiing for team USA turned into corporate *beep* and switching to the Ducks jersrys wasn't about disrespecting the US or our colors it was about just having fun! And those jerseys represented that! If you missed that then I believe you missed the whole point of the film!
I loved this movie as a chilld but as an adult I can still go back and enjoy it, I think you have to watch this movie with the innocence of a child! Do that and you can't help enjoy it!

One way to look at it was this: Team USA was becoming too corporate and too political. The kids couldn't understand that Team USA also comes with sponsors dictating your actions. Switching to the Ducks uniforms reminded the kids back to when hockey was still pure; the love for the game...ignore that all of them weren't Ducks to begin with LOL! It was able to motivate them.
