I could not believe it when I heard the news about Michael Massee and please don't get me wrong, but there are times when I think this movie is cursed. I don't know how many of you agree with me.
I hope that Michael can now rest in piece and I do hope that he can understand that he wasn't to blame for Brandon Lee's accident on the set of The Crow.
I now believe that the remake that is being planned next year would be an even bigger insult to Brandon Lee's memory and now Michael Massee memory as well.
People once believed that when someone dies, a crow carries their soul to the land of the dead. But sometimes, something so bad happens that a terrible sadness is carried with it and the soul can't rest. Then sometimes, just sometimes, the crow can bring that soul back to put the wrong things right.
I feel the same way about everything you said, David.
I hope Massee really was able to take it onboard that he was not to blame. I cannot imagine the burden he had to deal with.
It's very sad that it turns out he had a shorter lifetime to get that, than he might have had.
I really think they should leave a re-make well enough alone. I know a lot of people think one thing doesn't have to have any bearing on the other thing, but in this case there is a massive amount of emotion running high and it would be nice if the dollar signs were trumped by something more respectful of letting sleeping dogs lie.
What probably hurts even worse is that it wasn't originally scripted that Eric Draven (Brandon Lee's character) was going to be shot to death by Funboy (Michael Massee's character). Eric was originally going to be stabbed but for whatever the reasons, it was abruptly changed to a firearm death.
r14, had a friend who worked on The Crow and it's a classic example of how (non union) films overwork their crew- they were working 16 hour days that were mostly nights (which is like working in eternal jet lag), and in addition to the prop/armorer's misjudgment from fatigue, Brandon turned down wearing a flak vest, because that would be a costume and mike reset and add at least another 25 minutes to the day.
Friend said that he couldn't work for a year after The Crow, because he was so traumatized, he was on set when it happened and I didn't want to ask too much about it for obvious reasons.
They were priming him to be the next big action star, as he had signed a 3 picture deal with a major company (Fox?) and his acting skills were getting better.
