Willem Dafoe was excellent in this...
He really does have a presence, when he comes on screen you really sit up and take notice.

I love him (not in that way :)). He's a great action star. Wish he had more roles. Some say he doesn't match the character in the books, I can't say as I haven't read this one (I've only read the old Clancy novels). Nevertheless, he pulls this role off believably and with great presence.
shareDafoe is excellent in almost everything he does. I also wish he had more roles.
shareDafoe is miscast in everything he's in, including CaPD.
shareyou're wrong and an idiot
shareI'm sorry you get wet for Dafoe, but he's a terrible actor. The only thing he was good in was Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, which was a stupid movie.

And you're going to take away the "entitlement" how?
shareThe same way that you get to declare Defoe a "terrible actor."

Do you not see the hypocrisy here?
Some people have an "opinion" that Defoe is a good actor.
You think you can take that opinion away.
you're wrong. And annoyingly stubborn.

No hypocrisy. Taking lives is different than taking opinions. And I'm never wrong.
Prove it.
What, do you want me to meet you on the playground after school? You've just proven yourself a moron.

The thing is, he wasn't believable at all in the role. He's not John Clark at all. Not only can the man not act, but he can't talk either. You could stick a piece of wood out there and it would be better a better actor than Willem DaFaux.
shareMan, you must really hate Dafoe. Did he steal your girlfriend or something? LOL
I think it's ludicrous to say that someone as talented as Dafoe, who has been in dozens of movies, can't act. Do you really think that if he was as bad as you say he is, that he would keep getting hired for all these major roles alongside big actors like Harrison Ford & Tom Berenger in major movies? I don't think so.
If you don't like him, that's fine. But that doesn't mean that he sucks. Why can't ppl just say they don't like someone w/out making them out to be the anti-christ? Example: I don't care for Justin Timberlake's music or acting abilities either but i'm also mature enough that I can say he must have some talent. Otherwise he wouldn't be the success that he is.
So if you want to sling mud at Dafoe, knock yourself out. But i'd say you're definitely in the minority in the mindset that he sucks. IMHO, he is one of America finest actors.
One of American's finest actors? That's some funny stuff right there. You're too dumb for words. Don't forget your helmet when you leave the house to go shopping for your favorite flavor of window cleaner.
Do yourself a favor. Read Without Remorse and Rainbow Six. That is if you can read and not just watch movies. Then come back and tell me that Dafaux was right for the role.
Anybody who would call Berenger a big name actor has no credibility. He's a third rate hack.

Yeah you're so right. I must be a total dumbass cuz I happen to think that Dafoe who has been in dozens of films & plays & even been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor twice, is a great actor. And I also have no crediblity cuz I think Tom Berenger (another critically acclaimed actor & fan favorite) is a great also? Who died & made you the authority on who is a good or bad actor? If i'm dumb, i'm in good company. I'm also not a conceited little prick that trolls the IMDB boards in order to berate fellow members & say nasty things about actors that almost everyone (other than you) agrees is a talented actor. You must be one sad little dude.
"Ah, it's great to be young and insane!"
Two of the biggest pieces of crap on the planet won Academy Awards, Al Gore and Michael Moore. I don't put any stock in award shows. I don't know a single person that thinks Dafoe is a talented actor and I know a lot of people. But yeah, you're right in that you're a total dumbass.
shareHe is fantastic as always in this movie. Excellent actor
"I'm just a happy camper! Rockin' and a-rollin'!" - Patrick Bateman, American Psycho
When ever I read a Tom Clancy novel and Mr. Clark makes an appearance, I always picture William Defoe. He played the character perfectly.
shareYep, one of the great actors of the past 2.5 decades: Platoon, The Last Temptation of Christ, Clear and Present Danger, Spider-Man, etc. My favorite performance was Mississippi Burning where he really shines with Gene Hackman; Superb on-screen chemistry, disciplined badass G-man. He's still not afraid to take on controversial roles e.g. Antichrist where the opening scene is "his cock" which eventually gets hammered and squirts blood (Doh!)
P.S. It's Willem not William.
Really enjoyed seeing Willem Dafoe play Clark in this film.
Despite the OP's trollish rants, I think most cinema lovers appreciate his talents.
My favourite role of his besides Platoon, which I think he'll always be remembered for, is Shadow of the Vampire, where he is virtually unrecognizable, but hypnotic as Max Schreck.
When I saw Dafoe's name in the opening credits (I had no prior knowledge of him being in the film), I got even more excited to watch this.
The guy is just one of the best and most engaging actors of his time. And yes, he indeed kicked ass as Clark.
By the way, seeing him in that military getup kept reminding me of his role in Platoon.
What do you think the teacher's gonna look like this year?
his dark blue guayabera is awesome.

New Rule:
You can say you HATE an actor, but you must name some you LOVE so we can understand what you think and we can then form our own opinions regarding your feelings about a given actor and compare them to our own.
If you HATE an actor in a specific role (for example, Lisa Minnelli in Arthur--horrible casting-where was Goldie Hawn, for one) that's one thing. If you HATE an actor because YOU think he or she is a bad actor in general, that's another thing. Opinions without references are useless.
