Where was the setting of the school? Was it a real campus?

The arena they filmed in was, I believe, Long Beach State or UC Santa Barbara.

It was filmed in Case Arena, in Frankfort Indiana. It is a gymnasium at the local High School. The Dolphins painted for the movie still rest at the top of the gym today. As you will notice this is why the cew stayed in Lafayete Indiana for 2 weeks durring filming.

No No No , When they all walk out of the builing together (Nolte ,Shaq, Penny , Roe) They walk out of the R.O.T.C building at USC which also houses the girls practice Gym

YOu do realize that they could have used the gym for the interior shots and the building at USC for the exterior.
