Anfernee 'Penny' Hardaway

Does anybody remember when Anfernee Hardaway played for the Orlando Magic and how great of a player he was? It is so unfortunate that he is now coming off the bench for the Knicks. He was definitely a potential hall of famer when with the Magic and proved it by being a 4 time all-star starter. Penny and Shaq were the best duo in the NBA while it lasted! I miss hearing the Magic announcer saying "Pennnyyyy" and I hope when Penny retires that the Magic will retire his #1. Although T-Mac was a great player while with the Magic, they did not reach the potential that the Magic did with Penny and Shaq as they reached the NBA Finals in 1995 and I still remember it like it was yesterday. It is also unfortunate that knee injuries have hampered Penny's career since being traded away from the Magic in 1999. He was compared to Magic Johnson when he first came into the NBA in 1993 and definitely earned it. I hope somewhere in the NBA he can be a starer again before retiring.

Dude... I remember those days..I am still a penny fan even to this day. Alot of guys around my age(21) are because we are old enough to remember when he was a great player. I don't think penny gets his due even though alot of todays stars say that he influenced their game. TMac, Lebron, Baron Davis, among others have said that penny was one of their favorites growing up. Penny's 1st shoe from 1995 have been re-issused so maybe he will get some respect. I found a fan website about penny that is very well done...

They have mixtapes and highlight videos from the older greats such as Penny, Grant Hill, and The Reign Man.

Awesome stuff. Kemp and Penny were unreal back in the day.

Magic won't retire penny Haradways's number because he left to sign with the Phoenix Suns. Penny didn't leave on very good terms with them either. In fact when Brian Hill was coach and Haradway was traded back to the Magic they waived Haradway. Because he thought so little of Penny's game after the injuries. Hill insisted waiving Penny had nothing to do with Haradaways orchestrating to get Hill fired in 1997.

Bottom line is Hardaways career was not long enough in Orlando to get he's jersey retired. It's that simple.
