Does anyone know why the alumni care about the quality of their school's basketball team? Why would they pay so much to get a decent team?

shareno one has a clue?
shareIt boils down to pride and tradition, especially for some of the older, bigger Division 1 schools, winning College teams bring alot of national attention (and money/TV opportunities)and pride to the school and their Alumni...so they can say they are "part" of the winning team/season/tradition..several schools over the years have gotten in trouble for recruiting violations, this movie showed some of the "tricks" that are used to lure and snare kids(and their families)who have visions of fame and money (for if/when they graduate to the pro ranks). This movie I thought did a very good job of exposing much of this "recruitment" process...another good movie that touched on this was "One on One" with Robby Benson from 1976-77??
shareIt's all about the money. Winning schools go to tournaments and win and get endorsements and money money money.
It's all about hte money.
Plus, if you can get some guys to the NBA, it makes your school look better, and you'll get better recruits, and profits go up.
DId I mention money yet?
Your right about "one on one". Another one that really gets a good look at it is "Johnny be Good" with Anthony Michael Hall.
shareYes, part of it is about money, but the truth is, many alumni place way to many high expectations on these kids. The expectations from alumni is what is really getting college sports out of whack, because coaching positions are under constant scrutiny and there is less job security than ever. The problem is only going to get worse, and the ncaa has no incentive to do anything becuase the sport is as popular as ever.
shareAnother great film. Lou gusset great supporting role.,
shareit's fun.
